Beach Volleyball
Fall 2009 STARTING: September 5th
SOCIAL: Teams/individuals that have basic to intermediate athletic skills and love to socialize.
START TIMES: 1:00-5:00 P.M
LOCATION: York County Parks (John Rudy) / Springettsbury Parks
DAYS: Saturdays
POSTING THE REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE: The YSSL will post the regular season schedule on the site prior to the first week of play.
LEAGUE FEES
The base league fee is $40 for each individual. Team Captains Play Free!
Each team is required to list at minimum a 12 person roster
League fees include: Field rental, Equipment, YSSL T-shirt for each participant, Weekly standings, and Miller Lite sponsored social events at our official sponsored restaurants/bars.
TEAM/INDIVIDUAL PAYMENT
Individuals may use the following payment methods: PayPal / Credit Card or CHECK (Made out to York Social Sports League) and/or CASH.
Captains are recommended to submit payment for the entire team.
Co-ed Beach Volleyball Rules
START / TERMINATION OF MATCH:
1. This is a “Call Your Own Violation” league.
2. A match is completed when three games to 25 have been completed, using rally scoring. The team winning 2 of the three games is the winner.
3. Matches will last a maximum of 45 minutes. The team that is winning at the end of the of the 45 minutes will be declared the winner.
PLAYERS AND EQUIPMENT:
1. Six players, 3 men and 3 women (guideline), constitute a team on the court. Any number of substitutes is allowed. List all players that are present for the game on the official score sheet. Players are only eligible if they have signed the Roster/Liability Waiver for that team and are listed on the master roster.
2. If a team does not have at least 5 players from their team, a forfeit must be taken. However, they can play the game with substitutes (substitutes must be a player from the league).
3. The YSSL supplies game equipment. Teams should bring their own volleyballs for warm-up and practice.
TIMES AND SUBSTITUTIONS:
1. Forfeit time 5 minutes after scheduled start time.
2. Each team is entitled to two 30-second timeouts per game. (non-accumulative).
3. Substitutions are allowed on any dead ball. Subs are unlimited and may be made by a rotation of players.
THE SERVE:
1. A legal serve is contact with the call in which the ball is hit by one hand or fist, while the ball is held or after it has been tossed up in the air.
2. Each member of a team shall serve in turn. Serving out of order causes a side-out and loss of points served by that person, if discovered before the opposing team scores.
3. All players must be within the playing area at the time of the serve.
DURING PLAY:
1. Back line players shall not participate in the block or attempt to block, hit, or strike a ball higher that the net on / in front of the 10 foot line.
2. No players may step COMPLETELY ACROSS the center line. A player may cross the center line with his/her foot as long as part of the foot is on or above the center line and the player does not interfere with play of an opponent.
3. A legal hit is contact with the ball by a player’s body above and including the waist that does not allow the ball to visibly come to rest. The ball may not be lifted, pushed or thrown.
4. If a player goes up to block and the ball falls on his/her side of the net, the player may play the ball again. This contact counts as the first contact for his/her side.
5. Simultaneous contact of the ball by teammates shall be permitted and considered as one play and either player involved may participate in the next play.
NET PLAY:
1. Reaching over the net is permitted during the follow-through of a hit made on your side, an attempt of a hit or fake hit, or block attempt.
2. Blocking a ball that is entirely on the opponent’s side of the net is permitted when the opposing team had an opportunity to complete its attack.
3. It is NOT legal to block a serve. The ball may be played off a serve be the front line players, but cannot be hit directly back to the serving team.
4. Contacting the net or any part of it, including the net supports, while the ball is in play is prohibited, except by a player’s hair or unless the force of the ball by an opponent pushes the net into a player.
5. If the volleyball hits a ceiling obstruction on the opponent’s side of the court, it is a sideout. If a ball hits a ceiling obstruction during a series on the team’s own side, the ball is in play.
CONDUCT:
1. The official shall have the power to warn, declare side-out or point, or disqualify from the game or match, any player, substitute, or spectator who persistently addresses the official with regard to decisions, make derogatory remarks about or to the officials, or commits derogatory acts to the officials. The YSSL will support any decisions make by
an official.
2. The captain is responsible for his/her team and should be the only person to discuss objections or opinions with the officials or the YSSL.
